SO if I update to GIngerbread do I lose my Z4root?

I ask this because 1) I am about as tech savvy as a sarcastic goat in a bowling brothel and 2) I use my rooted D2 as my "wifi" for my tablet/laptop/netflix on wii etc...I don't want to lose that capability, and the z4root was SO easy

Yes, you lose root, and z4root doesn't work for the OTA. However, there is another root method available.

Thanks for replying. How easy is the 'new" root... Z4root was just "click"..and, again, I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to this stuff

You need to plug your phone to your PC, and run a quick zip from the PC. There are links in the other OTA threads.
