I'm in the same boat. Razr Maxx HD, Jelly Bean OTA update, FoxFi seems to work, but gives me the "Checking subscription status" and then "Call to complete..." errors, and no devices can see the WiFi network.

Thinking about rooting...is there a Razr HD/Jelly Bean root method yet?

No, you still have to go back to ICS to root.

Note 2 here. Just turned on Foxfi and it brings up the hotspot for VZW but it still works. Connected my ipod touch to it and tested it fully.
