So does it really matter now

So vzw appeared to be getting all huffy puffy about tethered data being used when it wasn't being paid for, but with Netflix finally making its way to android does it really matter anymore? In my opinion data usage is going to increase, or at least I know I will be using my phone to watch movies on a regular basis (just finished GI Joe :)), so does using data while being tethered without paying for it still matter? I was under the impression they were concerned about the amount of data being used... um well that should still be the case but now its going to be on my device instead of on my iPod or computer so they have no more argument. Just my opinion.

And for the record I was paying for the hotspots, but with the release of Netflix I'm contemplating dropping it since I can watch movies on my phone now...

You bring up an excellent question. Since they can't differ between tethered data and phone data (streaming several movies a month) how can they say that we have to pay extra because they THINK we are tethering? Streaming a movie will have the exact same data signature whether it goes to the phone or out to a computer.

I can see watching full movies on my device being few and far between....
I'd rather watch it on my HDTV...

Don't kid yourself, It's never been about data. It's solely about squeezing another $20/month out of as many people as possible. Is it any different than the scam that is text messaging? $0.15 every 160 characters, what a joke.

Im with you 300% but we all know if it can be done then there is more then enough people who will watch movies on their phone as if it was thier TV.

Couple years back this phone+netflix(hell the phone alone) would had came in handy when I first moved in my place.

Didn't have cable for the first 2 months just me, my Rogue, TV and PS3

My days was spent(after work) playing a game or two and the night caps was watching VCAST reruns of the X-files, The Browns and Futurama.

If i had then what I had now Verizon would had sent the men in black, probably would had went 4 + months without cable but eventually they most likely would had caught me.

Only thing they can do is call of the data watch police because I don't see how they can tell unless they make you tie in your Netflix account with the app itself like the ESPN app.

The way they judge that you are using wireless tether is by the way your phone accesses the data through their network not by how much you use. Wireless tether accesses the network in a way that they can see the request and recognize that the phone is sending data. Wired just shares the phone's 3g data so it isn't trackable.., They wouldn't be able to prove it based on data usage alone anyway.

I think them charging for hotspot is dumb anyway. Add another five to my data plan a month and include it. But whatever.

Do you really think Netflix is streaming the same resolution to a phone and a computer?

I hardly ever use wireless tether I'm going to use way more data with this app than I've ever used tethering. Have it working great on my X.

I can't find this app on the market and I read on a site that for now its only with certain droid phones and DX wasn't on that list, how did you get to work?

I'm running Liberty GB .5, then we have a patch for that ROM to "fix" netflix, runs great very impressive app. Take a look at the Liberty rom forum on this board.

Me too! I work at night and lunch and breaks can get real lonely,
watching my favorite movie or TV show is a reason to have a smart phone.

I'm running deodexed and rooted .595, just downloaded the .apk and it worked. Just need to get a cable to connect to the tv.
