Smartphone Tracking

For my class I'm doing a project and researching smartphone safety in terms of privacy and information sharing. I'm trying to do some demos for the class and doing some research. I know one way for someone to track your location is through the geotagging capabilities of your pictures, but i wanted to know if there are any apps or other capabilities that make it possible for others to track the location of your smartphone. Whether that be the purpose of the app or just a side effect of it. if anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated, thanks!
