SIM & No contract?

I don't know much about unlocked phones so please go easy

So I have just a pretty basic question. My friend has a Samsung stratosphere and his screen is cracked. Can he buy a no contract Droid Bionic off of amazon seller, put his SIM card in it and use it like normal?

Again I don't know much about this so feel free to educate me.

As long as said bionic has a clean esn. Hell just activate it and go.

You can run it on the verizon website or you can call customer service
