Screen won't turn on

I will go to bed and out my phone next to me because I use it as my alarm. Sometimes, I go to look at it in the morning and the green LED is still flashing, but the screen won't turn on when I press or hold any combo of buttons or plug it in. I need to take the battery out for it to finally turn back on, and then it is totally fine. Realistically, this isn't too big of a deal for me except it overrides my alarm when it is like this and then I do not wake up for my class. It is not rooted or anything, completely stock (unless you count downloaded apps from the ma rket). Any suggestions?
