Not everyone has a smart tv with built in DLNA. I am have a chromecast and a few Android TV boxes, but before I purchased those I made great use of HDMI/MHL. The only big problem with this is you are basically mirroring your screen from your phone to your TV. This means that if you turn your screen off you kill the stream. If you are not near an outlet, and you are streaming over HDMI/MHL you already know that the screen not being able to turn off drains your battery like crazy almost to the point of making this whole setup useless.

There is a new app that allows you to stream over HDMI/MHL while you screen is off. This can be very helpful especially if you are trying to stream something simple like music. This app does require that your phone is rooted. Head to the link below for the download.
