Screen goes black during speaker phone call and can't turn back on

I love this phone. However, when I make a call and use speaker phone, the screen goes black. Fortunately, the call continues ok. However, I can't find any way to wake up the screen. The only thing I can do is push the on off button.

Is there a way to wake up the screen during the call if desired??

Sorry it is no help but mine does the same? The screen sometimes cuts out during normal calls while trying to use the numberpad to get past our beloved call handling autodirect systems! I will post here if I find an answer.

I have my phone rooted now but believe the problem was software as it disappeared when rooted.
