Is it just me or is my Droid X way brighter than my Thunderbolt? Should I return my phone and get a new one? Or is that the way it is?

The opposite for me, I think when using automatic brightness the TB is too bright. My D1 is much dimmer.

I wish there was a way to keep automatic brightness but set a negative or positive compensation for those who like it on the dimmer or brighter side.

I'm wondering if anyone else is having their screen brightness adjust either darker or brighter, without actually going to settings to do it. I don't know exactly what I'm pressing at the exact moment it happens...but I know it's when I tap something. I have it set in the middle to conserve battery, so it either gets really bright, or really dark!!

Either one of two things are at issue here:
1) The screen is set on auto brightness.
2) You can adjust the screen brightness (if not set to auto) by holding and dragging your finger left or right over the notification bar.

I "unchecked" the auto brightness after the first time it happened, and has been unchecked ever since. Yeah, I always have to go back to setting it back in the middle where I want it. Thanks for your input!

Wow, that's very cool, I didn't know it can do that. I just tried it and it works. Thanks!

Is there an app that I can use to offset the automatic screen brightness control. I like not having to adjust the brightness however it could be a little dimmer across the board to save the battery.

I'm pretty sure that juice defender has a brightness control of sorts, I would think that it would err on the darker side.

You can use Screen Filter from the Market. I set it at 50% and set the phone's brightness to automatic. I also use this app to turn off the keyboard backlight.
