Samsung Nexxus vs Samsung Charge (disappointing) :(

Got my Nexxus today. I was a little disappointed when I looked at the phone. There are several nice things on the Samsung Charge that this phone doesn't have :frown:

Overall the look of the screens and button locations are nicer on the Charge. Font, size, graphic design. Especially the app screen. The Charge had nice big icon boxes. It looked cool.
On the Nexxus there are lots of mini apps on one screen and so they are smaller. The icons are not as attractively designed and they aren't in uniform square boxes :frown::frown::frown: Not as cool

I have trouble finding the apps screen and the settings key is not on the front like Charge ... you have to click two menu items to get into it. This phone is not that intuitive.

On the calendar and anywhere you input information the Charge's input screens looked better... you typed in boxes. The nexxus has a line you are filling out, not a box.

No cradle dock yet for the Nexxus, and when they do get one it won't come with a free spare battery like Charge's did and it will sit on it vertically instead of horizontally because the charger opening is on the bottom instead of the side.

Since it is a google phone it can't use any Verizon apps like My Verizon, Verizon videos or VZ Navigator

If I had known all this I would have kept the Charge I returned end of October in anticipation of waiting for a supposedly better phone.

But after waiting for it for a month and a half I couldn't buy another Charge, seemed stupid.

At least my verizon store is having a class soon dedicated just to the Nexxus. All other phones were generic droid classes.

The camera is great so far (quality wise), but can I press a button on the actual phone? I don't like clicking the screen, I shake that way.

This phone is going to need some getting used to.

This is what I noticed so far, will give more updates as I find them.

Last I checked this is a forum dedicated to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus....

Also, not sure this phone should be compared to the droid charge in the manor you are. The Galaxy Nexus is meant to be a pure Google/Android experience, the Charge has Samsungs custom UI called touchwiz.
As far as your camera button question.. a bottom will have to be mapped in the camera app to get it to work.

Sorry to hear about your disappointment OP. I think several things can and will be improved once the dev communities start releasing custom ROMS for the Nexus. This phone is going to be hugely popular amongst the dev community, and I think that there will be lots of options for you in a couple of months.

Also, for the settings, you can just pull down the notification bar and click on the settings icon right at the top. You don't need to access it via the app drawer.

I agree about the camera. No shutterlag is great, but not having a dedicated camera button and being forced to tap the screen induces a decent amount of camera shake induced blur in the images.

Everyone has their own opinions...a lot of your complaints are much to the likings of others.

No Verizon apps was a plus for me...just a waste of space. As far as the dock, it'll still be horizontal..it just has a high side to plug into.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using DroidForums

Wait, did you actually use VZ Navigator before?

Also the Charge did not have a dedicated button either.

That said, I think you bring up some valid points. Obviously they are a bit more opinion-based, but they don't seem to be too finicky.

Umm the app drawer button is right in the middle of the screen at the bottom, same place pretty much every other android phone has it.
Drop down the notification window and there is a settings button at the top

See those 3 dots on the right side? that is for the dock's that dont require you to plug your phone into them, u just sit it down on the dock and it connects

Are you blind? The Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus comes pre-installed with My Verzion and the rest of the verizon apps you should be able to get in the Market
Also why would u use VZ Navigator when Google Maps is better and FREE, I repeat, FREE. It also has street view, and its FREE...

If I had known all this I would have kept the Charge I returned end of October in anticipation of waiting for a supposedly better phone.
Charge has single core 1ghz and gingerbread, Galaxy Nexus has dual core 1.5ghz downclock to 1.2ghz and Ice Cream Sandwich, Galaxy Nexus IS better, FACT
AND shall I not mention the AMAZING 1280x720 SUPER AMOLED HD Screen?!
Take that pathetic 800x480 LCD somewhere else!!

Oops. I could swear that the logo overlay on top of the phone (the one she removed before putting on the screen protector) had it spelled with two x's.

I like my spelling better imho.

The start up screen is awesome and it doesn't make any sound which is nice.

After I get over the initial look I am hoping it's up and onward from here.

<<Drop down the notification window and there is a settings button at the top>>
<<See those 3 dots on the right side? that is for the dock's that dont require you to plug your phone into them, u just sit it down on the dock and it connects>>

THANKS!!

I hope they make one of these soon.
The only one she had was vertical and even that one was out of stock.Re Verizon apps. I'm only going by what the Verizon rep told me. At first she said they may add down the pike and then she said google won't be adding it. Didn't seem right.
I hope she's wrong.

I know the Nexus is technically faster than Charge. I just wouldn't have bothered to return the charge and lived without a smartphone for over a month and a half if I knew what I know now. HOpefully I will change my mind after using the phone for a week.

That's okay lol, were all just teasing. I think you'll end up liking it, just give it some time, also check out some of the ROM's when more come out. You may like those

Also I might advise you correct the spelling of your Phone on your profile :)
