Rooting, what is it, what are the benefits and how do you do it?

"Rooting" is where you go through some steps via laptop or pc (while hooked up to your phone) that grant you "superuser" access in the end. It allows you to modify the way your phone works, reads, and writes. If you go to the "Hacking Help" section you will likely find some step by step guidelines. I can speak only of the Droid 1, and it wasn't too hard. After you're done, you pick a ROM that you would like to use that has the apps and options you like, wipe data/cache, and install it.

Just make sure this is something you'd like to do, you will void your warranty, but your phone will operate more responsively, and you will have access to applications that only rooted phones can use. Good luck
