Rooting my droid?

i know there are probably a hundred threads like this so sorry in advance..but i hear so many good things about rooting your droid and i would like to do it except i dont want to brick a $600 phone or my dad will ****ing kill me, can someone explain why i should root it

if you're afraid to root your phone, don't do it. especially if you know you can't replace it
