Rooted d1 vs stock d2

What is better? I purchased a d2 for my son and the salesman said that if we add a a "dummy #" we can take advantage of a promotion where since I bought a d2 I can get another one free the dummy # is because no phone is currently available for upgrade. So I could also upgrade my wife's phone. Here is the dilemma. I love my d1 and fear droid envy. (Not being available for upgrade myself unroll 12-2011) I will input the fear of God that my son is forbidden to root his phone. And my wife can give 2 ****s about rooting. Soooooo should I get the Free d2 or suck it up and give them as gifts. ? What to do what to do

You can OC your D1 and make it faster. You can OC the D2, but not if it's not rooted.

Do you mind me asking, why won't you allow him to root it?

Droid 2's processor should be much faster even if clocked at the same speeds. Unless you want the Droid 2 hardware stick with the D1.

I've had both -- rooted and OCed. My OG Droid now runs liquid's v1.95 @ 1.1GHz. My D2 ran at 1.4GHz. My D2 was getting quadrants in the 2800s. My D1 is lucky to break 1600 on its everyday settings.

I sold my D2 last week. So I suppose my opinion is obvious...

Man this thread is great. I would give the wife your d1. Put a pretty pink theme on it and throw it in a nice case. If she wont take full adavantage of the hardware then what's the point of giving her the d2 and your son I would let him root but tell him to give you 90$ for the insurance replacement first just incase he bricks it.
