Replacement battery - non Moto brand

D2G. Purchased a Lenmar brand as a spare. When I inserted it in the phone and plugged in the charger the phone displayed a message that the battery could not be charged and to insert a genuine Moto battery. Do the Moto batteries contain a smart chip that the phone recognizes?

Stick with a phone, charger, and battery from the same company, if possible, to eliminate incompatibilities and charging issues, especially if the device and battery life matter to you.
