Husbands d2g stuck between droid logo and red eye logo

Hi.I'm so used to looking on the x forum that I'm sorry I posted this already (in the wrong forum but didn't know how to move it). Anyway, my husband has had nothing but trouble with his d2g, so I told him is ask my friends on the forum for help before he drowns this thing in the toilet (lol) he's not rooted...Pure stock only. He's stuck between the moto symbol then the red eye and then the word droid...then back to the red eye.. I can't turn it off with the switch at the top and the phone is getting very warm. When I pull the battery and re insert it after a while, it goes back into the above again (I guess this is what a bootloop is?) Is there anything I can do to fix this or should we just bring back to vzw? This is the second phone he was given. The first one fried the battery which vzw replaced and then a few weeks later they replaced the phone with a new I'm the box replacement. Now this!!! Thanks in advance for your help.

well if he hasn't done anything to it i would probably just bring it back to vzw. but you could try booting in to recovery mode by pulling the battery and holding the x key and power button at the same time. then when you see the exclamation point, press the magnifying glass on the keyboard and then do a factory reset. if that doesn't work then take it back for sure.

Gonna take that advice and bring it back tomorrow, but as to the next part of your recommendation, you said push the x key...would that be on the pull out keyboard? Then when I push the magnifying glass (I guess that's on the pull out keyboard too), would that be what would accomplish the sbf? Or is that a different step. This is just for future reference because he'd like to preserve the memory already in this phone. I guess you lose that if you sbf, right?. Sorry to be so dumb, but I haven't rooted even my phone yet, though I'm interested in doing so once the warrantee is off. I'm not really good at computer stuff though, so my laptop is dusty and lonely under my bed (lol) but I love my x. So thanks for your time and your help!:icon_ banana:

glad to help. sbf and the local recovery are tw different things. the recovery that is on the phone is a place you can go to wipe data/cache or manually apply updates. and sbf is a recvery image that you flash to the phone from your computer. yes doing a factory reset will remove all the internal data but the sd card is unacfected. and that is probably what they will do at verizon tomorrow to try and get the phone running again. if they can't do it then they'll prob give you a new phone.

I think I understand..also I guess if I ever want to root I'm going to have to learn how to do the computer part as well. I guess I have about 9 months to learn that. That's why it took me 3 years to get brave enough to get a smart phone. Only when my old phone really broke, did I have to get one by necessity. Do you think we ll be able to ask for another new inthe box phone or will we have to accept a refurbished one since this is the second time the d2g broke? I wish I could persuade my husband to get the x because I understand how to do most of the ordinary day to day things on mine.thanks again, you've been most helpful and patient!

well if you try your hand at being stern but pleasant, they may b willing to give you a new in box but i doubt it. my motto has always been you catch more flies with honey.
