Have you definitely read up on how to restore sbf, use and function of terminal emulator, root explorer, z4 root or whatever you use to root, how to nandroid back up and restore, as well as using titanium back up for program backups?

If you are good with that/those...do it.

I already have a bootstrapper backup and have already rooted my phone with z4. Is backing up my phone with bootstrapper the same thing as a nandroid backup?

As long as you have a file on your sd card that looks like this, you've got a Nandroid backup.

I strongly suggest having titanium backup for apps, but it isn't required. Just makes it easier to reinstall after you've flashed a rom. Make sure to follow the devs instruction closely on installation of the rom. If it says to mount first, mount first. Wipe data/cache critical too. If this sounds foreign to you, read more. They're are literally tons of threads about roming. I also recommend having rsd lite and the appropriate sbf already loaded and ready to go. Which rom are you gonna flash?

Good luck.

You should take a stroll through hacks, roms, do some searching via google. There are a couple other forums that have info too.

Sbf is like the ultimate reset. It brings the phone back to the beginning.

ok, I tried installing the Project Elite 4 rom but it aborted with a (status 7) error. I recovered with my backup nandroid (thank god). Any idea on how to stop this status 7?

Before trying this I was running the new stock OTA update on my new droid X. It is rooted usind the z4 easy root app and the rom was the Droid X load of "Project Elite v4" . If there is anymore info needed please tell me. I appreciate any help.
