Brought to you care of Sele and the RS over at Tboltforums:

I know this is repetitive information but it is important that everyone understand this.

Now that I have your attention:
IF YOU ARE ROOTED, DO NOT INSTALL THE OTA UPDATE THAT IS AVAILABLE FROM VERIZON.

What will happen is that you will download the update, the phone will try to update, it will fail! Then everytime you try to use your phone it will reboot and try to apply that update, and it will FAIL!!!

So please save yourself some trouble and don't manually download the update. This same file has been available to rooted users for 2 weeks now. If you have not loaded it already, you can find the file HERE. Instructions for loading this file to your rooted phone can be found HERE.

This is basically the leaked ots that has been released for weeks. If you did get the ota here is a solution:
If you get the ota and you dont want it, cuz you dont want to lose root. Then boot into cwr and wipe cache, then while in cwr mount your phone to a computer. Install the leak ota or a rom (ie das bamf). If you install the leak ota boot into bootloader (power on + volume down) to install. If you installed a rom install it like you normally install a rom.

Accepted OTA before reading this... ugh!

Rooted my TB just a couple of days ago but never flashed a ROM yet. Just accepted the OTA thinking it would just fix some of the issues of the stock setup before I put a custom ROM on it. Everything accepted just fine and seams to work good. Just checked root access... no root... doh!

Can I go through the original root instructions or did this update just patch the hole??? Anyone?? Thanks

You'll have to reroot and then use the OTA for rooted users in the OP.

Thanks for the info.... I'm sure second attempt will be quicker than my first... oh well..:icon_eek:

I was plagued with mad reboots with the leaked OTA. I was hoping maybe something somewhere in the official release might have been tweaked to fix the problem.

Sooo, since I can't do the leaked release knowing it will render my phone useless with random reboots, and the official OTA isn't rootable, do I have any option for getting the fixes of this update without the reboot issue and keep root?

Ok I'm getting confused... Although the OTA installed just fine today on my rooted TB JNTDroid mentions above all I have to do is do the same steps for root then apply the OP instructions to reapply the OTA on a rooted TB???

If you follow the 3 step root method you are effectively flashing a totally different pre-OTA update ROM and then rooting that ROM. There is a leaked version of this ROM which is pre-rooted that you can flash, but in my experience that causes lots of random reboots.

What is needed is a root method which works on the official OTA with no downgrade necessary.

They are saying the leaked and official updates are the same but they are different sizes so something in there has to be different. I'm holding out hope that the official update might not have the reboot issue.

Does that all make sense?

The MD5sum is exactly the same between OTA and what leaked. The size differences is due to VZW updating VZWbackup assist and bloatware.

Don't bother installing the OTA if you've already install the leak.

Thats what I wanted to hear. No need to install the OTA since we got the leak..........:icon_ banana:

This is my question. I took the OTA unrooted but I have ADB set up on my Mac. Can I root/ unlock the bootloader and then go back to the old firmware before the OTA or did HTC lock that OTA so it cannot be reverted?

The Official OTA made my phone reboot like 6x a day. Routed and haven't had a problem, but haven't updated. How many people have had reboot problems with rooted OTA?
