I think he has the earlier release version of JB and he is rooted, if he grabs the update (newer version of JB) will it take away his root? Now that is assuming that's what he meant. Sorry if my assumption is wrong

The system is 98.72.8.xt12 or whatever the update is 98.72.16....my jellybean version is 4.1.2 so do believe it's just the system ....will that take away my root if I update from 98.72.8 to 98.72.16?

Head over to droid razr hacks and check out the droid razr utility for jelly bean forum and you can get your root back.
