Camera is definitely not up to snuff for a $200 phone (but it's a "phone")

No text enlarger for SMS msgs...
Keyboard design is inefficient...

Theres a whole host of other little bug-a-boos that are showing up in the forum but they dont affect me...and I decided to keep the phone despite being aware of the above issues well before the 30 day return policy was over...but thats why I gave it the score I did. It's a pretty good phone and easily on par with gadgets like iPhone and the Blackberry's. Kinda wish RIM, iPhone and Motorola, Nokia and Samsung would all get together and poll there customers for features, then collaborate to build a really good phone. I just installed this Swype thing, but it says it can/will record my key strokes... Anyone know more about this?

It's for learning the keystrokes. SWYPE saves unknown words to it's data base on YOUR phone. It's not requesting any web addresses/URL's/etc etc so it's not like it's sending data back to some organizational entity or anything like that.

Having said that, and please forgive me if I sound like I'm lecturing but please please be safe with your phone use. Dont put account numbers, passwords or social security numbers on it...like any other form of electronically transmitted media...you must be aware that you DO NOT have the right to expect privacy.

The SWYPE program is really cool. Takes some getting used to but the learning curve is shallow. Do the tutorial. It's worth it and will save you time and frustration..:icon_ devil:

I really like the phone over all....BUT
The camera is a zero, and I really want my VZnavigator app back.
Google maps isn't sitting well w/ me. Im sure I have me GPS on yet its always off by 4-5 miles & takes me around in circles.
Also, the Verizon Sales dummy said it'd sync w/ a IMac...and it don't! (guess I should've done my HW) so I don't get to use half the features I paid 4.....
HOWEVER if I could at least get my VZnavigator back id rate it a 5... As is rating 3 (out of 10)

I like the Droid a lot, but I don't have much to compare it to. My previous phone was the Motorola Razr. I thought the Razr was great for a non-smart phone, but I love the droid.

hmmm. i find google maps to be very accurate...it follows me hom eon the train, showing me exactly where i am on the track...i was even in a parking lot, waiting for the wife to get something at the store, and i turned it on, it was within FEET of me...i was in my car, and it said i was 1 spot back and 1 spot to the left of where i was parked...pretty good....it even shows my address correctly where as my car GPS is off my 200 yards....go figure...how is the GPS signal where you live? maybe some interference around you?

Someplace in this forum there are calibration instructions...something about waving the phone around in a figure 8 type of motion. Something is wrong with what you are doing because Google maps is accurate to within 10 yards - 30 feet...period..unless the device is faulty. Google maps is accurate to within the minimum proximity allowed by US standards...any closer and you begin moving into military satellite global positioning technology....and if you do that the Men In Black will come a knockin' !!! Double check your instructions...mine is just as accurate as JoeProcopio's..follows me around and everything.

One bit of cautionary advice...don't program your "home" location into any GPS device..program a police/fire station close to you..after all you know exactly where you live..but do you want the guy that steals your car/cellphone/PDA to know also. Just food for thought and my 2¢....:icon_ devil:

The figure-8 motion is for calibrating the magnet and, perhaps the accelerometer (not sure about that last one though). It's only really needed for use with compass programs and maybe some others (metal detectors ect.). Your GPS doesn't need any calibration, GPS doesn't work that way.

As far as paranoia about home or other addresses there are several great programs that will lock the device and/or wipe all data from your phone if it gets stolen.

Gave it a 5 but is really a 4.8. Awesome device aside from a few glitches and restarts. However, I wouldn't trade for any other device.

Thus far it is an amazing phone! My only complaint so far is the small slider key board. Big fingers little bottons....

I had the same problem, but grew out the finger nails,
filed them to a slight point, problem solved. Of course I am female, males might
get some funny looks.

I I am not loving the Droids virtual keyboard-it is a tad finicky. I am getting used to it, but i far prefer the slider keyboard. And i am a woman with small hands.

I'm a woman with big hands, so I can emphasize with the guyz.
I also have issues with the virtual keyboard, hitting the key next to the one
I am intending to use. I think I'll get used to it eventually. I love the features
on the virtual keyboard though.

I am also new to smartphones, but it has been farily easy to figure it out...
I printed out the online users manual and it answered the one or two things
I couldn't figure out. Also forums such as this are great.

Have you tried to download Swype it may help w/ your typing on the virtual keyboard? It takes a little time getting used to it but when you do it works really well.

4.9 cause of the physical keyboard...had the droid for almost 2 months and still cant get completely comfortable with this keyboard

Now that Ive had the droid for about 4 weeks I will say its as close to a 5 as a phone can get I'm very happy I went with it. You can do so much more than you can with the BB or Iphone and it just keeps getting better 2.1 and flash coming hold on its going to be a great ride.
