Quick question - Selling my DroidX

Real quick question...

Selling my DroidX today.. it's already been wiped so thats not an issue.
My big question is this, can the buyer activate via *228 or do they have to go into a VZW store or call *611 to activate?

Pretty sure that since the phone is no longer on my acct *228 should work but I just wanted to verify.
Thx!

*228 will work assuming the ESN of your X is clear/clean.

Along the same lines.... trying to sell my OG Droid on E-bay, a potential buyer asked me for the MEID # to confirm it's clean before bidding. I gave it to him. Did I just open up the door for somehow abusing my MEID #? Thanks.

Yeah that is an unnecessary step. Kinda sketchy. I sold an X2 on ebay and it was no different than a usual sell/buy, everything went smoothly.

I think I read on here once that with the right number (don't remember what), you can just give it to Verizon and they can activate it without actually having to connect to the phone. Usually it's done to add a "dumb" phone to an old line to remove the data plan if buying a new phone. I just don't see why he would need it beforehand, besides if anything went wrong he has buyer's protection...

Edit: Also I'm not positive what he means by "is it clean?" in the first place. Is what clean? Sure there are several things he can refer to, but nothing he can find out with just the MEID. I don't think....

Clean meaning account not closed for nonpayment or warranty abuse or lost/stolen phone.

I got the # from someone on CL so I could check it out online before I drove over there...there's a website to check ESN's... it checked out to be clean... if he reported it lost or stolen I couldn't activate it

Ah, well there ya go. Good to know :icon_ lala:

Now, two clarifications....MEID and ESN numbers are the same thing, right? And two, if someone did acquire said number, can it be used against someone? Like is there ANY risk in giving it out??

Im not sure if they could just activate it with having the phone physically there... when I was buying the phone I clicked activate ... entered my mobile number... got transferred to a rep ..gave the esn and it was activated immediately

I did not even need to talk to a representative to activate my X.
