Question about Contacts and the Phone book

I have a droid razr max that I just updated from a droid 2 global. Everything worked well and my contacts and email are all set up. I went to pair the phone with my VW Touareg and that went OK until it went to import the phone book. It brought down over 1,000 phone numbers from the contact list. The issue is it brought down teh phone number as the name with no other details. I know I had teh same problem a year ago doing teh exact same thing, but I can't remember what I did to fix it. I thought I removed teh sim card from teh droid 2, but if I do that with the razr I can't access the phone.

Any suggestions on what to try to get the phone book loaded properly? Is there a setting to tell the phone to store the contacts as teh phone book?
