PS3 or xbox 360?

Can't wait for ps4 and xbox 720 though. I heard sony is going to use something like a triple core cell broadband engine with like 2 gigs of ram and the(maybe more than one) newest and most powerful gpu they can find. Don't know about the 720 though.

I have a 360, never play it though. They're fun i just have too much other stuff to do and i prefer playing games on my computer rather than a console. This is also my second 360, first red-ringed then got stolen before it was replaced lol.

What's your source? From what I've read, Sony is making the PS3 a "ten-year platform", which means PS4 won't come around until at least 2016. They've also said they haven't started designing the new system yet for this reason.

I'm still of the opinion that developers need to spend more time fleshing out their ideas; most games these days have great graphics but repetitive, clichéd, mediocre gameplay. Truly imaginative, epic games are few and far in between, and better hardware doesn't help that.

The PS3 is truly a 'ten year' system in my eyes...

The ram technology is lacking to support the processing power it has though, which is a severe drawback. For raw graphical power i think the xbox is a slight winner.

Keep in mind that the PS3 was designed as a media center capable of quite a lot of things you can throw it's way, not an almost pure gaming powerhouse like the 360.

To each its own, Id rather have both.

Get both! That's what I'm doing. I have the RE4 Red Edition XBox 360. And online is really cool. You only for the Gold membership Once a year though. So paying isn't all that bad. I'll be getting my PS3 next week. Lol. I love my life... B-)

The PS2 was given minor hardware improvements throughout its lifespan. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony quietly ups the RAM a couple years before the PS3 gets killed off. Older component prices will drop as new tech matures... who knows, maybe they'll even bring back PS2 support!

Though I doubt it.

They don't need to up the ram they have developed a way to get around that its called streaming. They stream the data from the blue ray so u don't need as much ram.

Actually, a few (not all) PS3 games use texture streaming to make up for the lack of RAM; the Xbox 360 has a unified architecture with a better GPU. Theoretically speaking, the PS3 has the advantage in terms of flexibility and total processing power with the SPU being used for graphics as well, but the 360 is generally able to push out better graphics/anti-aliasing.

This is especially true in cross-platform games; the PS3 would technically be more capable, but a developer is not going to rewrite a game to take full advantage of the PS3's architecture... it just doesn't make financial sense. It's also the reason why PS3 exclusive games look/feel so much better, since they're written from the ground up for Sony.

The PS3 excels at physics/AI, from the extra muscle. Graphics... eh, not so much. However, I will say the difference in graphics between the systems is negligible and won't matter to 90% of people, myself included.

Yeah games tend to be a little rough on ps3, but it is still more capable than the Xbox with a little effort from the developers.

The PlayStation Store also has PSOne games for nostalgic purposes, while Microsoft has no old-school credentials.

I just have to contend this point. ;)

The X-Box Arcade has at least Perfect Dark from the N64 (which I consider to be the greatest FPS of all time).

Not owning an X-Box 360, I may be mistaken, but doesn't the 360 have support for original X-Box games? Maybe not all, but a wide (-ish?) range?

PS3 may be able to buy and download PSOne games... but it can't play any of the actual discs, from either PS1 or PS2 (well, if it can, I've not tried it, since I don't have any such games to try it with).

Now, if you really want talk about "old-school credentials," the Wii owns both the PS3 and X-Box 360. ;)

I would half-agree with you here. I know Xbox has Perfect Dark (and its remake), but I'm not sure how a Nintendo game came to be in the Arcade. Same with Castlevania. Licensing agreement?

I wouldn't say it's equivalent to the PSX library of hundreds of games, even though only a fraction are currently available on the PS3 due to license conflicts (the Japanese PS Store has tons more). They can also be copied onto a PSP for playing on train rides, which is what I sometimes do.

  • Fun Fact: Did you know when it first came out, the PS3 cost the consumer ~$5-600, but cost ~$900 per unit to manufacture? Sony only started profiting from the PS3 when it began selling the slim version with reduced component costs. Hooray for learning!
The first iteration of the PS3 sold in the US featured backwards compatibility with most PS2 games (and flash media ports!). They dropped this very quickly, since production costs were incredibly high. A few lucky bastards were able to get this [best] unit.

Unfortunately, Sony saw this as an opportunity to sell HD remakes of PS2 games in the Store. Which is nice, because consumers enjoy paying for games twice.

Owned both. But unfortunately my Xbox broke and switched to a ps3. I love that most my friends had an Xbox so online gaming was a blast. And its more devoloped. I love the ps3s free internet and the bluray

Xbox if ur gonna strictly use it for gaming

Ps3 for a home entertainment system
