Problems with new update for Droid X

My phone downloaded a new update that is working ok and there are a ton of improvements. However, I use to be able to press hold the period to bring up small selection of common punctuations but now it bring up the same selection but selects the + sign and closes without allowing me to pick the one I want. Is anyone having the same problem & does anyone know of a fix for the problem?
