Fission has 0 chance of getting Gingerbread running on the D2 any faster than Motorola can. Their ROM is not AOSP based, it is based on Motorola's framework. They might bring some of the updated Gingerbread apps but it's not gonna be a true AOSP Gingerbread.
If anyone can do it it will be cvpcs and matt, but even then, there's the bootloader to deal with. We can't update the D2s kernel to the newer version that is required to run Gingerbread so the likelyhood of a full port(without someone miraculously cracking the bootloader) are nill.
Im sure there's several of them working the night away already lol. Even if we don't get a full port Im sure were going to see a ton of features/apps on ROMs in the very near future.
"Bootloader begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern Time, August 29th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug. Bootloader fights back."
