Pictures get sent as videos. What's up with that?

Ok, I've got some pictures I want to use for my contacts. They're on my home computer, so I size and crop them, then send them to my phone. Only problem is, when they show up on my phone, they show up as videos. Which means a box with an arrow on them. When I click on this box, the picture shows up for about a second, then goes away. I asked some folks at Verizon about this (on a busy day, so this didn't help) and they simply said they had no idea what was going on.

So far, my solution is to send the pictures to my wife's nv2, and she forwards them on to my high-tech, bragging rights Droid, and THEN I can use them. Something's wrong here. Any ideas?

Still can't send pictures to my phone from my PC.

They start OUT as .jpg files. How do they change? And how come if I send them to my wife's nv2, they're fine? And then SHE sends them to my hi-falootin' Droid and they're fine. I just can't send them directly to MY phone from my computer. Frankly, there's no way I'm going to connect to my PC every time I want to simply add a picture. That makes no sense.

All of the issues I'm having with this phone are with the contact list. I'm getting burned out on this stuff. Grrrrrrrr.

Are you using vtext.com to send the pictures to your Droid? Since vtext was created and designed to work with dumb phones like the enV, that phone may "know" to strip off any sort of header that Vtext adds to it.

You could of course e-mail yourself the pictures rather than sending them via text.

I was using the "vzwpix" address to send me (and everyone else) the pictures. "Everyone else" got them just fine (on their dumb phones - ahem), but my newfangled, hi-tech, 'smart' phone received them as videos. Hard to brag to those people about how great my new phone is when simple stuff like this get screwed up - ha.

Next time I'll give the email suggestion a try. Thanks.

Exactly the point I was making vzwpix (pic version of vtext.com which I mistakenly called it) was designed specifically for Brew handsets like the enV, so now you take a handset that doesn't have the same set off tools and you expect it to work. It is sort of like taking a Palm Pre and wondering why it doesn't work with Palm Pilot software. It isn't the same platform, so it has different software and without some sort of compatibility layer, it can't possibly be expected to work the same. I am not trying to be facetious, just realistic.

im having some what of the same issue.

but when i get pics from buddies via text. they show up as a video. see the pic for a sec or so and its gone.

this is on my Motorola Droid

Catching on

No - I get it. Since I'm brand new in the 'smart phone' world, some of this is like the leap from DOS to Windows way back.

My mis-understanding is most likely from why my droid doesn't recognize the .jpg from my computer, but does recognize the same .jpg from my wife's older phone. But I see what you're saying. The .jpg is recognized differently by the two phones. I'll do the email thing next time and avoid all the frustration. Thanks, JayMonster.

Yeah. So at least I'm not the only one. That's exactly my problem. And, I can't then save them as a picture either, which is why I'm sending them to myself. I want to use them as pics for my contacts. Gettin' to be a hassle. But as JayMonster says, I'll try sending them as email attachments next time. That doesn't help you with your buddies though, unless they're using 'smart' phones.

"Smart Phones" is a term I'm starting to question - ha.
