Phone detecting . . . but not detecting . . .my headphones [S3]

Hi guys,
odd thing going on here with my galaxy s3. When I plug in a pair of headphones, they "click" in, and cause the home screen to light up, but for some reason, my phone doesn't detect that they are headphones. As such, the sound still plays out of the phone's speaker. When I go to settings--->accessories, there is no "headphone" option. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

hey dude this is not your phone problem.you have to choose another kind of head phone and plug in again ..this is the best solution.try to this...after you occurred the same problem tel to me i will be clear your doubts.

I tried that when the problem first arose. It isn't the headphones; it's the phone.
