pageplus x2. root 2.3.5

I'm looking to root a friend of mines x2. It's on page plus. I see several methods here but just wondering if any of them would conflict with pageplus firmware. I'd hate to root it for him and it be unusable. Someone please link the best method. Thanks.

Also what roms are available for the old phone?.
