OS update procedures/prep?

I have a D2G that is supposedly getting Gingerbread in the near future. I was wondering if there is any procedure/prep that should be done before installing the update. I have NOT rooted the phone, but I have a lot of apps, and use Launcher Pro. I have customized the docks and even created a few icons myself. I like how my phone is setup. What is the chance that the update will affect this. Will the phone revert to Blur as the UI? What should I to expect?

You shouldn't have to do anything. It just updates but if you have LauncherPro, the stock launcher shouldn't take over LP.
