Orientation for shooting videos (1st gen Droid)

I feel like an idiot, but how are you supposed to shoot a video so that the orientation is right when you upload it to the computer? Am I supposed to hold the phone landscape when I shoot it, or portrait? Is it the same for taking still shots?
