one more syncing question

In Gmail, when I click on View Labels, I get a list of all the malboxes I have. Under Inbox and Sent there's a line that says: Sync 4 days. Under Drafts, it says: Sync all.

What are these different sync notations all about? Where do they mean? Do things get synced in 4-day stretches? I never configured these settings, so is this the default? And where do I make changes?

Many thanks in advance!

No, it's how many days of past messages are to be synced. This lets you keep only recent items. e.g. I have been using gmail since the beginning and have over 4K messages. This way if I go into a specific folder/label it only d/ls messages within the set time frame (e.g. 4 days) and not EVERY message in the folder/label.

If you are diligent at moving things into folders/labels than you can extend the time of the sync if you want. It's more for those people (like my fiance) that don't use labels. She has EVERY mail she ever got still in her 'inbox' so w/o the time limit upon her first sync it would take FOREVER to sync her inbox.

thanks for the thorough response. i'd never understood this before. Is this the same as archiving? When I click on a message, it gives me the option of archiving, deleting, or older.

or is archiving something else?

Archiving moves messages out of the "inbox" and into the "all mail" folder/label. So if you don't care to label all of your messages than archiving is an option. Just be aware that viewing the "all mail" folder will show a TON of emails. I personally recommend getting in the habit of labeling any mail you want to keep. Just my $.02

Man, I had wondered this too. Couldn't figure out why on many options there's a sync all option, and another won't let u sync all, but let's u go to 999 days..
Thanx

Brand new to the forum but thanks for all the helpful info!

I diligently use labels in gmail as well. Is there a potential downside to syncing "all" for each individual label? Even if I do not have a large amount of messages in my inbox?
