One click root method question

My friend has a D2G and just got the update for GB. He was asking me about root and I was curious because I did it on my D3 and I already have the moto drivers could I just plug his phone in and run the process or do I need new drivers for his D2G?

I'm not 100% sure, but the Motorola Mobility drivers don't appear to be model-specific.

I had old moto drivers on my computer from when I rooted my droid 2. Droid 3 rooted fine. I tried rooting my droid 2 a few days ago, it rebooted and everything, but I still didn't have root even though it said "successful"
