Oldest Droid (Model A855) screen has gone berserk and unresponsive

1. Had this Motorola Verizon phone (Model A855) for a long time and have had NO probles whatsoever till yesterday. Some symptoms:
2. screen becomes completly unresponsive and have to remove battery to turn it off.
3. Screen at times has a "mind of it's own" and whirls up and down on its own
4. when I reinstall the battery the screen works for several steps then either rambles off on it's own, becomes unresponsive or creates its own commands.

Any help would be appreciated.
