Not Rooted properly?

I used the Odin all in one to root and upgrade to Froyo on my Eclair based Fascinate. I'm somewhat of a newb so bare with me.
I used this one : Super Clean version 2.9.2 - EB01/EC10 Froyo leak root+Froyo Clockworkmod with MALWARE protection

Everything is working fine but I don't know If I'm rooted properly. I use connectbot as a telnet session and it says if I type in "su" at $ prompt and get a # cursor than I'm properly rooted and for the most part I can access most of my files but when I tried to follow along TAPOUT gps fix when he edits GPS file using Root Explorer and cannot get the option of "Open in Text Editor", it just says open as text.
In Root Explorer in the upper left hand corner it says
/Dev/Block/stl9 (R/W) next to it is the grey box that says "remount as R/O"
So I assume I'm in Read/Write mode and when I long press on gps.conf I get a Open as Text option not Open in Text Editor option.
Am I doing something wrong or am I not rooted properly, if that is such a thing?
