Noob needing help rooting LG Ally

I downloaded Universal Androot, got the failed message. Then I read that method no longer works and I must download something and connect via USB. I am a very quick learner, I know how all of my guitars, tvs, cars, etc work! but I am lost when it comes to this stuff! Please someone help me.. I just need to know how to root this darn phone. Step by step possibly...:blackdroid:
