Non motorola battery wont charge

My wife got me a new battery off of ebay, but my phone won't charge it. It says to replace it wit
h a Motorola battery. Is there anyway to get it to charge it?

Stand alone charger? Some time I bought an emergency general purpose battery. It came with adjustable alligator clip adapter. It clips onto any battery when removed from the phone.
