Newbie Google account question

Is me having a Gmail account, the same as having a Google account? Is there something I am missing??? Sorry for my confusion.

Hey,

gmail is googlemail IMO,
so if you have

lastname.surename@googlemail.com

its the same like

lastname.surename@gmail.com

Yeah you can still sign in on the Google website also with your gmail account

Your gmail loggin is your google account "username@gmail.com". I have a number of Google Apps that are all accessed by using this loggin:
