New vent mount?

Got this vent mount from BB. The kid in the dept. said it was new so I thought I'd try it since I've been unsuccessful with any other type of vent mount.

It's pretty flimsy and after about 20 minutes I figured out a way to get it to be pretty solid but it's not installed as was intended. Using the Garmin adapter which is the ball mount piece.

Overpriced at $25 but between this and overheating from the sun I thought I'd try it. Probably will end up returning it and sucking up the high price for a proclip.

Returned the mount and have a proclip on order. I used a vent mount in a rental car recently that works well that doesn't hold well in either my Toyota or Lexus.

I guess try and try again is the only way to find out if a mount works.
