New to Droid (X) in Colorado-Appreciate pointers!

Hi Y'all-

This is my first droid and first time here. My BB burned out when disconnecting from Corporate America and I thought Id try a Droid. I like it but I know I need HELP. (When Verizon sold me the extended battery and Motorola charger, and neither the standard nor extended battery fit the charger, I knew Id need better assistance;})

Im searching here (to try and find answers and not duplicate postings and reveal the totality of my ignorance... but Im failing.) to see how to load converted ebooks (from Calibre) to my Droid X and I cant "find" the SD card on my Mac when I attempt to synch the new books to the phone. I think I screwed it up somehow. I only see a "Motorola" disc icon on my laptop, with no idea how to find the ebook/sdcard folder to load the books rom my lapto into aldiko. It doesnt show up.

I know this isnt the right place to post a problem, but since Im new, and after searching some, I figured Id ask you guys to point me in the right direction.

Any help is VERY appreciated.

Thanks

Gustav Slim

Start with loading the drivers for the x on your computer. That should open up the sd card. Download the nook app for reading the ebooks. That has a folder to drop them into.

As for charging the batteries, you have to use the phone to so that. Their is no official battery only charger yet. You can find cheap ones from china on ebay.. I use one and it seems to do fine but who knows about the long term impacts. Most who work at verizon retail stores do not know what they are doing.... Sometimes you find one who does. Assume they don't and you should be fine stopping by to buy items when you need them.

Do not get lured into the 1 step root apps. If you cannot figure it out the first time without them you probably don't want to risk it.

Other than that enjoy your new toy and feel free to ask questions as you have them. Chances are there will be others with the same question who will be glad you asked.

Typed with Swype on my Droid X and sent with Tapatalk.

Thanks for the responses- I appreciate your taking time to assist me. I have looked over what you suggested (in siggy line) but I dont have resolution. My Macbook (I think) recognized the device last month, and I wonder if I "screwed something up" by dragging a folder where it shouldnt go etc.

I looked for drivers online, but didnt see any for Macs. When I plug the DX into my mac, I see a disc icon with Motorola as its title, with 6.3MB. When I select the icon, it opens showing 4 things but no folders. Autorun, config, Moto connect and a setup file- which it says cant "read in DOS mode"

Forgive my ignorance, but do you (all) still think I need drivers? Where can I get them for my Mac? I just want to be able to load epub books (converted by Calibre) into the sd card of my DX to be able to read them.

Any more feedback would be appreciated. I tried Craigs List here in Northern CO, placing a wanted add offerring to pay for the time of an DX guru, but none applied;)

One thing to check, if your SD Card isn't mounting when connected to the Mac:
On the phone, when connected, you should get a notification stating that USB is connected. If you tap on it, it should give you options.. I believe one of them is "USB Mass Storage". Select this one, and hit OK.

When done on the SD Card, you may want to return it to PC Mode...
See if that helps. GL!

Still unable to locate/load sd card for DX when connected to macbok

I appreciate the tip, and Ive been on top of that one. I do get that popup and have been selecting USB storage but still am just getting the Motorola disk icon on my macbook, and no ability to "see inside" the phone and put anything in the SD card ebook folder.

Can anyone further shed light on this? Im listening to you all and we are just missing it- Im sure my lack of technical knowledge doesnt help my communicating the specifics.

Thanks again for all the input Droid Forum Community!

From OSX, when I plug in my phone, it mounts the CDRom that has the motorola setup files... Then on the phone, I pull down the notification bar, and tap on USB Connected, and choose the USB Mass Storage option. When I do that, a mount pops up on the desktop (and in Finder) called "No Name". That new mounted filesystem is the SDCard on the phone for me...

HTH, GL!

umm try this... after you connect your dx to your mac make sure you go to settings, applications, development, check the usb debugging box. if your phone is in usb mass storage mode this should work

"Found" DX on laptop (thanks), unable to load ebooks- I screwed up my DX

Guys-

Per your feedback (thanks!) I can see the DX as an external hard drive when conected to my macbook. However I am unable to see where to place the folder (that I created with Calibre on my folder) with the converted epub books on it to add to my aldiko reader files. Ive moved it several times, and its not "showing up" on the phone. ALSO I am now unable to read the books that are CURRENTLY listed in aldiko, as it now says (when selecting the specific book icon) thAT "Book not found please check SD card" on my phone-

I realize this may be complicated- I may have moved folders that I shouldnt have previously, and am wondering wha to do to fix this. I dont want to wipe my phone to reset everything, but may have to- I dont know if I can do that wthout losing the multiple email acounts I already have setup, apps etc

I am open to ideas- If anyone can help me (Ill even PM a phone number so you can call me and walk me through things if thats easier) Id be willing to give public kudoes or even send $ via PayPal in return. If you can help me, Id really appreciate it. Im trying t learn, and Im not a technical guy and have a limited understanding of how this DX is setupp/works.

Help requested-Aldiko backup- I bow to your wisdom as Im STUCK

Hi Guys- I still have issues. Any help would be appreciated. I have a droid x and want to get the books I have on it via Aldiko to my MAcbook Pro for backup and eventual transfer to other devices. PLEASE help and Ill return the favor down the road if at all possible. I wonder if I screwed up my phone by dragging files around months ago....

I connect my phone to my Macbook pro via USB. Per your instructions I select "mass storage"..I see a "Motorola" disc icon on my desktop. I double click and see 4 things only. Autorun.inf, config.ini, MotoHelper_2.0.24_Driver_4.7.1.exe, and setup.exe. Thats it...

1) How do I copy/backup the books from Droid X to my Macbook? I see no folders, no SD card just what I described above.

2) If Ive "messed up" something, how can I fix it? (Prefferrably whilest saving the books and email setup as opposed to a complete wipe...) If I need to pull the books off and do a wipe, tell me how. Ill listen and report back.

Im recently unemployed, and while I dont play that card often, Im doing so now so that someone may be more willing to help me out with simple instructions if they exist. Im trying to learn the right way, but I think I did some stupid stuff without knowing what I was doing, and your help in fixing this (so I can keep my books and email setup if at all possible) would go a LONG way right now. I have other stuff to focus on, but losing an ebook library would hurt more now than ever.

Thanks!

P

Im still a newbie, so if I posted this in the wrong place and you want to adjust it, thanks and I apologize.
