new service plan

I am purchasing a new service plan and trying to get by as cheap as i can. I have never sent a text before so that is $10 I can save. I will use email and maybe skype along with surfing and form posting. Question is do I need texting to do this? It seems like the data package should cover email and everything else but texting dont it?

you could do free texting from Google Voice, your friends just have to be aware of the newer number
