New phone - Droid X or Droid X2?

My son wants my D2 because of the keyboard, which I don't always remember to use thanks to Swype. Question becomes: do I purchase a Droid X which has GINGERBREAD!!! or do I purchase a Droid X2 which has a dual-core processor but no GB? Are these apples to apples or apples to oranges? The forum I read last evening wasn't very favorable towards the X2; but I didn't like my Droid2 very much going from an LG enV Touch either. Help is needed, pretty please and very soon!!! He's impatient...Ah to be 19 again, NOT!

Thanks,
Wendy

The X2 is a very minimal upgrade b/c of the processor, but the screen quality/clarity seems to be worse than on the original DX. You can get the X on contract very cheap now. Have you gone and played with both at the store?

GB isn't a big deal. It should be available on the X2 very soon.

I have the origional droid x and just got the droid x2 and really like the x2 i have NO complaints at all. I have to say that I cant wait till the x2 gets the gingerbread.

I would go in and test both out. I still have my X and went in to check out the X2.......pretty much the same experience as the X, but I thought the X2 screen looked much better.....really don't get the complaints about it.

Coming from a D2, You'll love the X2. I really wouldn't recommend any one that has the X to upgrade to the X2 though.

I've been testing the screen on the X2 for the last two days and I honestly dont have ANY complaints. The only way it gets pixelated if you hold it way up to your face and the only way to see the pentile grid when the screen is on is to hold the phone at an odd angle in the right light.

I've come to realize that all the griping about the X2s screen is just people looking for SOMETHING to complain about.

When comparing the screens of the X and the X2 there are positives and negatives to both. IMO the screen on the X2 is more usuable for day to day stuff, so I went with the X2.

Oh and the X2 was actually $15 dollars CHEAPER than the X in the verizon store I went to

One other thing nobody else has metioned:

If you're interested in rooting and playing with different ROMs, etc..

YOu really can't beat the DX, next to the Droid 1 it's probably one of the most developer supported phones on verizon. There are alot of very exciting things happening recently with the DX.

There is nothing really available for the DX2 yet. That's not to say there won't be in the future (there most likely will be), but right now it just isn't there.

I dunno if that matters to you or not, but its something to consider.

I was going to ask the same thing. Does the qHD screen make that much of a difference, even though it's PenTile? Is it good or bad that the camera button is gone on the X2?

qHD does make a difference, the pentile doesn't look as bad as some websites/posts have said. Colours are more saturated and the screen is definitely brighter... I'd know, I'm looking at both phones right now, side by side.

I think it was a bad choice for them to get rid of the camera button but it's not a deal breaker.

I actually prefer the look of the DX screen in comparison to the DX2 indoors. Although the higher resolution on the X2 is really noticeable.

One thing the X2 definitely has on the original is using it outdoors. I live in an area that has sunny days 85% of the time, so having a screen that performs well when its sunny outside is a must. When I played with the X for a couple of weeks, I always had a hard time seeing the screen when I was out in the sun.

As far as the physical camera button goes, I like having a button. But I've been playing with it and I think I'll get used to not having one the X2.

I have a X and have compared mine to the X2 in a Verizon store. I like the screen a lot. More to view (screen real-estate) on the screen with sharper text. I did not see much difference in colors on my X than what is on the X2. Even though the X2 has Foyo as it's OS it will eventually get GB. I have not upgraded as yet since I want GB on the phone prior to buying it and at this point my X is rooted with GB and all of the advantages that rooting and GB brings. With all of that said I may still get the X2 some time this summer unless the Bionix that's to be released some time in the Fall has better specifications. Front facing camera would be nice but not necessary for me at this time. Maybe by Fall it will be as I am currently playing with my iPad 2s front facing camera talking with my granddaughters. Which is way cool over wifi!

Droid X1 now that it has CM!

With some bugs still in it (hasn't stopped me from running it haha)
If I were you I'd just get an X2 even though it's a very minimal upgrade from the X it'll still be the more updated phone down the road.

I have both the Droid X2 and the Droid X. Personally i like the Droid X a bit more just because of Dev support. But if your not really big in to rom's and stuff get the Droid X2.

I think the reason we are not seeing the huge favor of the Droid X2 is because the Droid X1 set a pretty high standard when it came out. Since it had the best spec's of any phone out and ones that were supposed to come out with in the next 6 months, it was a killer phone. as you know the spec's of the Droid X are still right up there with the newly released phones. The Droid X2 isn't to much of an upgrade and doesn't blow away all phones that supposed to come out within the next few months. If the droid x2 had LTE on it, then it would be a different story.
