New Droid X2 Owner with a question

Just wanted to know if anyone could provide a little insight into the three different storage settings on the phone. There is: Application Storage, Internal Storage and SD card. Can someone kindly let me know the difference between them.

From what I understand the internal memory of 8gig has been split into application and internal storage. The last storage available on the unit would be the memory SD card. Total available if using a 32gb SD card would then be 40gig.
