NEW DROID OTA UPDATE ALERT (still 2.1)

Let me ask a question, if we have been using ROM manager and wiped data/cache a million times for clean ROM installs over the last few months how do we know if SPRecovery is still I guess active? I see I have two files(they look white in Astro) that say recovery-0.99.3 and 3b on my SD card but I can't open them...does this sound right?

Through Root Explorer they look like white pieces of paper with gold badges with stars, they are named Recovery-0.99.3.img size 3524608 and recovery-099.3b.img size 561

I just want to confirm these are active files as I am sure others do as well.

Thanks for the help.

I'm going to go back to the OTA 2.1, this time reinstall the update.zip and in the meantime since I never exited from RSD Lite, I'm going to exit RSD and then try again and see if that maybe makes a difference.

Looks like this might be a hoax or something?

talking with a few people on irc, there is no diff from this update to the last one. only that it formats SYSTEM and actually updates the baseband. the last update didnt update the baseband on all phones. i had to use a sbf file to update the bb.

that's what i'm thinking. thanks for testing :)

This new file has the same file size as the ota 2.1 update, 69.6 mb

thanks for reporting that... is it exactly the same name as the original 2.1 zip?

I downloaded the zip from post 1. My phone, while rooted wants to download the original 2.1 and both are the same size.

I think the original update.zip exploit was possible by using a file the exact same size as the 2.01 minor update from 2.0 ...I don't recall what size those files were.

UPDATE: Got to 100% then said FAIL - sooooooo, maybe it will block. I just did a screen shot

Going to try again now

FWIW, I just got thru ripping open the file and looking at all the apps etc. Even opened up most of the apps. I didn't see any changes and certainly no updated Launcher etc.

I also find it odd that the previous Droid OTA updates were 15 and 16 mb and this OTA update was 60+mb....seems odd. Also the previous updates were patch files and this one was more like a ROM with uncompressed apks inside.

Doesn't add up to me.
