New Apps from 2.1

PLUS if you long hold the "dimmer button" it will switch to a "green" night lite type display.[/QUOTE]
any idea if you can set that to be the default look for the app? I use it as my alarm clock so the black w/ green background would be great, and if it would default to it instead of having to long press the icon that would be awesome.

Can you please re-write these instructions in stupid please :)

Where do we get busybox, how do we do this... Do we need to do this?

To remove the old gallery, (busybox required):
Code:
adb shell
$ su
# mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
# /path/to/busybox mv /system/app/Gallery.apk /system/app/Gallery.bak
# sync
# exit
$ exit

No, you do not need to do it. You will simply have two Gallery icons - one for the 2.0.1 version and one for the 2.1 version. Your phone needs to be rooted to do these steps. If you are not sure what that means take a look in the Hacks forum.

im about to do it now, but just curious is there a way to uninstall it and go back to 2.0.1 if i wanted incase for example if i had to bring it back to verizon?

Thanks everyone very much! I used the Zip Files from the first post because when I went to the unzipped versions, they already had been downloaded enough times that the server wouldn't allow any more downloads. Astro easily installed everything.

I love the new green clock with the black background. I only wish that there was a way to turn off the white buttons lights on the side. Why wouldn't they fix that for us who use the Droid for an alarm clock???

Also, the new Gallery is awesome. I'm not going to root my droid to get rid of the other Gallery, I'll just remember it's the second one on the list, or simply make a shortcut for one of my Home screens I guess.

Thanks again for the most awesome Gallery and Clock hacks! I already have been using the news and weather widget for 2.1 the past couple of weeks and love it. Now I can't wait for the new 2.1.

Ok you guys kick ass - the new Dock clock ROCKS.

Some questions.

1) The dimmer mode has two... one is a VERY low light screen - can you adjust that? The other is the green one which is novel.(kind of 80's)

2) Says weather unavilable - but if I tap on where it says that it brings up a different screen with the weather - is there a fix?

Also Home ++ is NOT liking this one bit. I have to put it in the dock, wait until Home ++ wants a FC and then the Dock screen comes up....

By the way the Dock application works with this in landscape OR portrait mode.

I still havent found any way to get the weather to show up or to be able to adjust the dimmer.

By the way I have the Gallery updated and the Dock updated... why do I need 2.1 again?

I have the weather showing up but I also have the news and weather app from 2.1 loaded. When I click the weather it links to that app. For some reason, in the app the dock shows the temp in Celsius but in the link it is in Fahrenheit.

Figured it out - you have to change the weather app to location instead of zip code and it will show up.

Problem is it shows up as Celcius instead of Farenheit even though if you press the weather button it shows correctly.

Anyone else having it go to the green clock after a certain number of minutes? Annoying.

Anyone get the weather to show up? If so please say how...

I had the weather/news widget installed already, when I updated the clock it displays my current weather, however like everyone else it displays Celcius even though when you go into the settings it's F. Not a big deal to me because I'm sleeping when it's in dock mode. And, its easy to convert C to F anyway. Take the C temp, x 2 + 30 = F. So, for example 20C x 2 = 40C + 30 = 70 F.

I am a big fan of the green clock with black background. I also find the normal dimmer w/o going to green clock wayyyyy too dark. And, just now as I'm typing this, my alarm went off as scheduled, however when I hit to stop the clock it kept ringing. Also, when I took the phone out of the multimedia dock this morning, all the icons from the 3 home screens were gone, and came back only after power cycling the phone. Anyone else experience any of this?

You hve to install the 2.1 "News and Weather" app/widget.

There are 2 versions floating around, one works perfectly as an app/widget but the weather in the Dock shows up as celsius, the other crashed when you try to use the widgets, but shows F temp in the Dock clock.

News and Weather app link to fully working app/widget (but displays Celsius in Dock clock...

Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum (rename from .zip to .apk and install)

News and Weather app that shows "correct" temp in Dock clock but crashed when you try to add widgets..

I love the "dimmability" of the clock app, but the back lighting of the droid soft keys (the back/menu/home/search buttons) is still very bright. Does anyone know how to get them to dim while in dock mode?
Thanks
