I know how to create a folder on the Home screen by long-pressing an empty spot, but how do I create a folder inside that folder, or move an existing folder into another folder?

I don't think you can do that with Helix either, perhaps other home screen replacement apps???

Hmm, are they perhaps not really "folders" in the sense that folders on my PC are?

I don't believe you cant do that with any of them, I've tried it with helix. You should check out app organizer its like the default folders on steroids.

Apps Organizer is nice...

But this app, FolderOrganizer - Android app on AppBrain from the same dev, will let you nest folders like you want to. (Well, they're more like Gmail labels than folders... But you give a label to a label and achieve nesting that way.)

And if you want to keep photos and such in the Folder Organizer folders, you can create shortcuts to them with Astro within the Folder Organizer program.
