Need to send email to multiple contacts

I can't compose an email and then go to my Contacts list and choose to send it out to more than one recipient. Per an old thread here I tried Handcent APP and it enabled me to scroll through contacts as I would like, BUT I can only scroll through the general contacts list which is hundreds. I want to be able to click on Send and then choose which folder to scroll through (ie family, favorites) and click on the recipients to send to. Can I do this, like I do on my regular gmail account? Handcent is a messaging application. Are you talking about text messaging or email?

Hook, for emailing. I can do what I want for messaging, but not emailing.I guess that's why Handcent didn't work!!
