National Android Signing Day

So I'm going to go ahead and rant like almost everyone else.

I'm on the big red and I'm not thrilled that the Atrix **cough cough** I mean Bionic is castrated to 512mb ram. While a gig of ram might seem a bit much RIGHT NOW, in a year? Year and a half? Where will the Bionic fall to stay in the ring... right now this is what I'm leaning towards myself but I'm not happy about the RAM drop.. it doesn't make sense but lately, when has Verizon made business sense?

HTC... not a fan of HTC phones in general. At the start of this thread someone mentions that blur makes Moto phones seem 'heavy' while Sense doesn't....??? Care to explain that one to me? Moto Blur is what allowed the Droid 1 to out preform the Droid Incredible in graphics because Sense bogs the system down while blur doesn't.

Having rooted the incredible, evo, droid 1, 2, global, and X I personally feel that the Droid brand is nicer to root. Doesn't mean much, but the hoops you have to jump through to root an HTC device seems out of this world. Doesn't really apply, just a HEY I LIKE Rooting Moto devices.

Honestly, I don't know the we could throw LG Optimus into the ring, but personally, I don't think LG has proven itself as an android platform provider. The novel idea of a 3D phone is nice... but in truth, it's novel and will get old. The whole idea of why a dual core processor phones attract me is the battery life. The processors will split the work load and therefore run at lower mhz extending the life of the battery.... mean while, LG is creating an OS built to negate the whole premise.

Ok.. sure, we all want better programs, better games, better graphics, and it is going to come at the price of the battery... but I think LG is jumping the gun. We need better battery tech before I'm willing to buy a device that won't make it through a work day without being charged 3 or 4 times.

Kind of brings me back to Bionic and Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt or Bionic... These are my choices... I'm not comfortable with HTC... sooooooooo I'm gonna get a XOOM... Hahahahahahahaha

The droid 1 do not have blur. I have the droid 2 and I am also able to see first hand what blur has done with the droid x. Now a vanilla rom will run better than any ui but sense is more polished and runs better than blur. Moto may get it together and make blur better and time will tell. That is the reason for this thread to keep adding news and bits and pieces that we find about different devices to help those looking to upgrade to find what choice is right for him/her.

That's why I'm learning towards the Bionic. Sticking with the Droid brand.... god I feel like brand loyality is the only thing keeping me on the BIONIC.... the new Nike? ^_^

This will be their second US based Android phone. Sure, everyone talks trash about the Ally, but it is what it is... an entry level smart phone. (BTW, running FroYo before the Fascinate). Im not up for an update until June, so I'm going to keep my eyes open. I'm in the sticks, so LTE wont be an option until the upgrade after this one. My mind is far from made up, but the LG is making an impression on me.

In the smartphone error brand loyalty only mean I will look at your brand first. I am keeping an open mind because what if LG learned from the ally and made a smart phone that actually worked well, was open and allowed for development and most of all the company supported the device. No I am not saying that is the case but I think I am going to take the wait and see approach and try each device out and look for reviews before committing being I will be stuck with it for 2 years.

Speaking of the Ally, I liked it for having a better looking keyboard than the Droid 1 and 2, IMO of course.

You know I really do like the HTC phones that are coming out...but I also love my OG Droid and the Motorola product line. Just not sure which way I swing just yet.

With Moto locking down the bootloader and also the bloatware issue out there I may be switching to HTC. I really like the look of the Thunderbolt and it likely will not be locked down like the moto phones are. (just speculation) But, my upgrade isn't until November so I will see what is out there at that time.

I think motorola is missing the boat on locking it down like that. I bet if they allowed for a device that was open and allowed users to choose the blur they want, though people would root and choose roms, ultimately they would probably choose motorola. Motorola is one of the easiest devices to root, they support their device, and I understand their approach for blur. We are in an age where twitter and facebook is important and people want to keep up with that. SO motorola is smart to tap into that market. But they would be even smarter if they tapped into the development community market. But its a money thing will the risk out weigh the reward. Every time someone bricks a phone and send it back that is costing them money in labor in fixing the device. I see where motorola is coming from locking it. They are trying to win the hearts of user that their device is secured, while ensuring that people are not putting un authorized software that could result in unnecessary repairs. Plus the amount of users who really care about roms and rooting makes up maybe 5% of the market share. So from a business stance it don't make sense. If the nexus S was constantly selling hand over fist then trust me more manufacturers would throw their hat in the ring. Lets be honest, the droid x sold, the incredible sold, the evo sold and people who bough those devices wanted that look. And blur provides that look to compete with sense and that is what motorola is looking at. We just need to convince them that there is a market for vanilla android and provide a solution that would benefit both parties. I am willing to give in to a little blur for an unlocked bootloader.

That is a great compromise that I'd be willing to make. However, would it really ever happen? Highly unlikely...

A nod to huskerkate for sending me this. Ima post it and let you guys react

Motorola Nexus 3 Successor To HTC Nexus One & Samsung Nexus S?

Motorola has started off 2011 with a bang, introducing the Motorola Atrix 4G, Xoom tablet & DROID Bionic at CES. Now rumors have surfaced that Motorola will be given the honor to produce the next Google Nexus phone, the Nexus 3.
Motorola Nexus 3 to be successor to HTC Nexus One & Samsung Nexus S?

AdvertiseTalk reports that one of their sources claims the successor to the Google Nexus One and Nexus S will be produced by none other than Motorola. While there is no concrete evidence to back up this claim, it does seem plausible. For one, Google has no favorites and jumped from HTC (Nexus One) to Samsung (Nexus S) this year. While the Nexus One didn't fair so well in terms of sales, the Nexus S hasn't been adopted by critics as a game changing handset either.
In comes Motorola who has been a strong advocate for Android devices and currently carries the best of them (Droid X, Atrix 4G, Bionic). With the Motorola Bionic 4G being the last known Motorola device at the moment in the manufacturer's road-map (May-June release), if there truly is going to be a Nexus 3 then we won't be expecting it anytime soon.
As with all Google Nexus devices, expect a new Android OS to launch alongside. Will it be Android 2.3 Ice-Cream Sandwich or a later OS? Let's see where this rumor goes before speculating any further. Hit the source link for the full story.
