my tablet ate my photos!

I have the Samsung galaxy 7 2. I bought the card reader to download my photos from my memory card. The photos seemed to download, but I can't find them ANYWHERE, and my card was wiped as well. Can anyone tell me where I might find my photos? I've looked in every file, folder, program. Nowhere to be found. Plus my card reads as full when it it's on my camera, but there are only about 40 photos which were taken after the download. Thanks all.

Just an update. I called Samsung customer service. The problem was that I took my card out of the reader without "dismounting" it, and in doing so corrupted my card. He told me my photos were gone forever. Well, not true. A friend was able to use a program and restore all the photos onto the card.
