Motorola Droid not sending/recieving texts

I have had my phone for a few months now. It is a refurb, as I managed to destroy my original in the rain. It is currently not sending/recieving text messages the first time. I have to repeatedly send messages to get them to go out. It says that I have 3G service and will even show that it is communicating. It then comes back a few minutes later and says that the message could not be sent. It has never had this issue. Is there a fix for this? I need help asap, as I deploy in a few days and want to take this thing overseas with me.
