Motorola Droid 2.2 Revert

I got the OTA update for 2.2 about 3 weeks ago and have been putting up with it ever since. The new OS lags my phone down to the point where I don't feel like using it for anything. It use to be the greatest with everything available on it I was wondering if there is a way to revert back to an older OS that doesn't require as many resources. Thanks for any help.

Nope, that's the official release and Verizon is going to make you update to it. When I got 2.2, my phone sped up a lot and got better. I know some people said they had battery issues with 2.2, but I never saw that myself.

What exactly is happening with your phone that is lagging? Have you looked at the battery usage by chance to see if some rogue app is causing your phone to bog down?

I checked my battery status and there aren't any rogue apps. Everything looks legit but the display was usung the majority so I took off auto brightness and no animations. That seemed to help a little, but even as typing this from moto keyboard the letters have a lag. Or when I leave an app and go to the homepage it takes about 5 secs to display and widgets or apps that are there.

Yikes. I assume you're stock?

Also, you said this has been happening for over 3 weeks now?

I ask because when I first updated to Froyo, my phone took a little to warm up to the new system and was laggy at first, but then gradually got better as it synced and learned.

All phone's hardware react differently, but that's no excuse for why yours is acting up. Have you taken it to Verizon?

Yes, I'm stock for now but am going to root asap to see if the overclocking helps(I'm sure it will). As far as anything fishy.. I doubt it. Me and my bro both have the same phone and are experiencing the same effects. I could take the phone to VZ but it will most likely be a waste of time. Well, sorry to hear that. I would take it to Verizon first and see if they know anything about it. If not, then go ahead and root...

Feel free to PM me and I'll help you out with the rooting. I did mine using the RSDLite method about a week ago. I've been installing custom ROMs, themes, and now I'm overclocking my phone. It's insane!

I had a couple snags along the way using the RSDLite method and there's a couple little tricks to make it work that I learned (through help via a live chat room). I can share those with you some time. Like I said, just PM when you're ready. Give VZW a go first though and see what they say.

You might be able to go to one of the threads, get the 79mb file that Verizon has for repair and reinstall it manually. That's what I did instead of waiting and my phone is unrooted.

I found that if I let the battery run down until the phone shuts down and recharge, it helped a lot.

After feeling comfortable and still want to root the below post should be use
Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

To Overclock the kernel (if your feeling good)
Overclock 101

After rooting and there are issues with the Droid 1 and need to take it in for repair/replacement use one of these guides to unroot the phone and take off SPRecovery. Both are great guides. FYI - the 1st link can help fix your unrooted phone, follow the "recovery section". It has the OTA file directly from the Google Servers.
Unroot/Back to Stock (2.2) Without .sbf or RSD Lite - Droid 1 Only
SBF to root and to unroot

Clear your cache and data. Go into settings, security, clear data factory wipe. Reboot phone. Pull battery. When you boot back up you will need to activate the phone and then log into Google account. It will take a while...grab a sandwhich. Once it is logged back in it will download all your apps again.

Let it update apps as it finds them. That could take a full day. Not a big deal as most are simply updating ads.

After a day...if you still feel like rooting follow the links in the above post.

Yup. That was something I was thinking of asking him too.

FYI, task killers don't currently work on Froyo. There is a "task killer" app that you can load that is basically just a shortcut to the application manager of the OS.

I am having the exact same problems.

I have a "like new replacement" phone, because the first attempt at 2.2 bricked my Droid. The replacement phone was 2.1 up until about 3 weeks ago. After I got 2.2, it seemed to be okay for about the first 24 hours, then i noticed the lag, and an annoying tendency for it to take forever to make a call. When I try to call a contact by tapping their name in my list, the list disappears, and then it is at least 30 seconds before the phone decides to dial. After the call, the phone will occasionally freeze on the call screen, with the "Add Call", "End", and "Dialpad" icons at the bottom of the screen. If that happens, I have to do a battery pull. In one very strange occurrence, I went to dial the girlfriend's phone, because she forgot where she set it... So, I call up her name from the contacts list, press it, and.....nothing. The phone freezes up briefly, then goes to the home screen...then a couple of hours later (at about 2am) her phone rings, loudly, and it turns out, that my Droid was calling her phone. Now mind you it sat on my nightstand, with nothing else around it. It took the phone more than two hours to process the call I had tried to make earlier. I have done six battery pulls in the last 3 days.

I am not running a task killer. I have about 100 apps on my phone, and I don't think there is any "rogue" app running. Regarding apps, there are quite a few "crap apps" in the market, but that's another subject for another thread...

I am seriously thinking of going with Cricket, and their BlackBerry 8530, the plan is 60.00 a month, so I figure it might be worth it. I need a phone that works, not one that has decided to be unreliable all of the sudden. I thought the Droid was great....until now... It is a bigger headache than it is worth.

Any ideas? I haven't gone to Verizon, because I am not sure about what can be done.
