Motorola Droid 2.1

I hope they realized how disappointed everyone is with the fact that they didn't add 5 home screens, live wallpapers and the new app wheel. Maybe they took it down because they're going to add some new features? :motdroidvert:

At this stage in the game, I doubt it that they are still adding new features. One can only hope.
I'd rather wait a few more weeks/months than receive an incomplete 2.1. As much as I am anticipating the update, we deserve better than this.

I'd personally prefer the 2.1 that was listed on Motorola's site with a 2.1.1 update or even a 2.2 update in a few weeks/months which adds the new Launcher and Live Wallpapers. That would be a win/win situation because at least the security and bug fixes would be applied.

Coming from the BB experience, I want to trust that Moto/Google/VZW will not rush an OS update out...

ahh that makes me rofl. yeah they prob are going back to add all the crap that should have stayed in the first place. it's pretty embarrassing when a bunch of random hackers can get a leaked 2.1 beta for a different phone and hack it to work on the droid better than motorola can make an official version.

2.0.1 already does everything 2.1 does it even has it's apps now. maybe moto should have hire some of these rom developers to help them out :icon_ devil:

That's what I'm hoping too!

You are correct. However, the hackers do not need to go through all the red tape a corporation has to go through to release an OS update.

Some of the best devs I have seen have some hacking experience. Hire them if you can. :)

The fact that we are getting a watered down version of 2.1 is what I was worried about when getting the droid. It starts with this update and then the next one will probably have less and then we probably wont even get newer versions of the android updates. I know new phones come out every few months that are faster and more powerful but to already be taking things out of updates because they say it wont work well enough with the droid worries me. I want to still be loving this phone a year from now since I cant upgrade till the end of 2011. Ok sorry for the rant, hopefully we get this update soon and then another one comes after that with the 5 screens and other goodies that we were hoping for.

One thing to remember is that just because something is on Nexus does not mean it is part of the 2.1 Android OS release.

Some things might be addons to the OS.

Live Wallpapers might be something added by HTC or Google to the OS that is not part of Android.

HTC added their SenseUI stuff, Motorola has added MotoBlur to some phones, etc.

I don't know it to be true ... just saying that some things on Nexus might not strictly be the 2.1 Android OS.

Its an update people if they leave stuff out then they can apply another update later. If this update doesn't happen then it will damage Motorola already damaged name.

Personally I can care less about what fancy stuff the patch comes with. I just want the fixes and tweaks and changes and then let loose the rom devs and then I'll be happy.

Good point didnt even think about that.

While this is a good point, do you really think extra home screens is strictly an HTC/google addon? I doubt it.
